Volterra, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Siena<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/div><\/div>

Our itinerary to discover ancient Tuscany starts from Volterra, a small town about 45 km away and reachable in 50 minutes by car.<\/p>\n

Our visit to Volterra<\/strong><\/span> starts from the medieval walls that surround the whole city and from which it is possible to access through the gates such as Porta all’arco or Porta a Selci and many others.<\/p>\n

The first stop takes place in the Piazza dei Priori where the municipal building or (dei Priori) stands, on the opposite side there are also the Palazzo Pretorio and the Torre del Porcellino. Not far away we find the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Bell Tower located in Piazza Duomo. For those who have more time, it is also possible to visit the Baptistery of San Giovanni or get lost in the small alleys of the city.<\/p>\n

Next stop on the excursion: San Gimignano<\/span><\/strong> about 45 minutes from Volterra.<\/p>\n

To visit the town located on a hill overlooking the Val d\u2019Elsa, we can start from its most famous and most beautiful square, Piazza della Cisterna which is surrounded by medieval houses and towers.<\/p>\n

Furthermore we can also admire Piazza del Duomo and not far from Piazza Pecori and Palazzo Vecchio del Podest\u00e0. Very interesting is the Grossa tower, one of the highest in the village (54 meters).<\/p>\n

For those wishing to discover the origins of Vernaccia, absolutely must not forget the Museum of Wine and Della Vernaccia located near the Rocca di Montestaffoli.<\/p>\n

Another stop not to be missed is the small village of Monteriggioni, which occupies the top of a hill whose slopes are planted with olive trees and vineyards.<\/p>\n

Although small Monteriggioni<\/span><\/strong> reserves us the opportunity to climb its walls and enjoy splendid views of the surrounding valleys, it is also possible to visit a small museum where we find armor, weapons and helmets of medieval knights.<\/p>\n

The last stop on the journey is the beautiful city of Siena, a 30-minute drive from Monteriggioni.<\/p>\n

The historic center of Siena<\/span><\/strong> is recognized as a World Heritage Site and is full of points of interest, we can start from Piazza del Campo where every year the Palio takes place in honor of the Madonna Assunta (16 August), passing through the cathedral until you find many palaces and churches to visit such as San Domenico and Santa Maria dei Servi. In short, a city in which to get lost in the history of the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
